This is the same idea behind some courtesies, like opening doors for women. It is not that women can't open doors. Of course they can. Opening the door expresses a little consideration to make her life easier. When a man walks down a street with a woman by his side away from traffic, in a sense protecting her from harm's way he gets a point.
Any time a man offers to help with a difficult, dangerous, or tedious task, he gets points. This doesn't mean a woman shouldn't do these things; it just means these are ways a man can score more points.
When a man offers to carry things, empty the trash, move things, carry the luggage, drive the car, pick up things, or fix the computer, the electricity, and the plumbing, this stimulates oxytocin production in a woman. (The hormone oxytocin is considered the "bonding hormone", playing an important role specially in sexual behaviour).
Women tend to notice all these little things, and they certainly add up to contribute to her feeling loved and protected, which helps her cope with stress.
